歡迎來到「九七的兒女」出生隊列研究!
我們是一項在一九九七年開展的香港出生隊列研究，眾多在一九九七年四至五月期間出生的孩子都參與了此項計劃，是目前亞洲區內最具規模並代表中國人民的出生隊列。
香港是一個嶄新的地點進行出生隊列研究。她擁有工業革命後所帶來的優勢，包括生活富足、普及醫療服務和基礎建設等現代生活環境。然而香港的人口結構，主要在二十世紀中從當時仍處於工業革命前的中國內地遷移來港，但在過去六十年間，本港的社會經濟模式和疾病類型經歷前所未有的急劇轉變。這造就香港成為一個獨特的地點，有助探討社會經濟和流行疾病在短短兩至三代間迅速轉型的大前提下，對孩子的健康與發展的起源的影響。大多數發展中的亞洲地區正跟隨香港的發展趨勢，「九七的兒女」出生隊列的研究結果，將對這些地區的流行病學發展和公共健康措施推行的方向作出相關提示。

健康跟進計劃
我們在2013年8月展開了新一輪健康跟進計劃，為參加者進行簡單健康檢查，並將收集到的數據作出統計和分析， 目的為研究各種慢性病的起因及發展（如糖尿病及心臟病），從而改善公眾的健康。檢查項目包括肺功能測試、脂肪比例測試、搜集生化樣本（包括唾液、 尿液、頭髮及腳甲）和血液樣本測試等，當中血液測試是用以檢驗空腹血糖、血脂、肝功能、腎功能及全血球計數。我們同時會向參加者進行問卷調查。 完成檢查後，參加者均可獲得超級市場禮券及一份詳盡的健康檢查報告，內容包括各項檢查結果，參加者並可按報告結果，為自己的健康作適當的安排。 此跟進計劃的另一個重要目的是希望建立一個生化樣本資料庫（Biobank）以作未來研究用途。
為了方便居住各區的「九七的兒女」參加者，我們分別在屯門、油麻地及香港城市大學設立檢查站。 到目前為止，已有逾三千位成員完成了這個健康跟進檢查。由於「九七的兒女」是一項長期的追蹤研究，每一位成員都對此研究非常重要！ 參與這個計劃既能檢視自己的健康狀況，亦對香港的醫學研究有很大的幫助。

關於「九七的兒女」
研究背景
相信一九九七年在很多香港人的心目中是一個重要的年份，因為香港正式由英國殖民地的身份回歸祖國。 然而對於一個由香港大學以及香港政府衞生署組成的研究小組而言，這亦標誌著亞洲地區內其中一個最大型的出生隊列的成立。
香港大學社會醫學系(香港大學公共衞生學院前身)一直致力煙草控制。有鑑於中國吸煙情況嚴重，故此「九七的兒女」研究最初構思為二手煙對嬰孩健康的影響提供充足的醫學證據，並獲得香港健康護理及促進基金的撥款而展開。

1. 何謂出生隊列?
出生隊列研究從出生開始一直隨訪同一組研究對象，為一種獨特的流行病學研究設計，有助了解在人生各階段中生理因素、社會及經濟狀況或行為因素如何影響健康。
現時很多出生隊列都源於歐洲血統，但是近年重新發現上幾代經歷的環境變遷所誘發的非孟德爾式(non-Mendelian)基因表觀遺傳改變，即稱為「表觀遺傳」(epigenetics)，讓我們關注到要探索健康和疾病發展的根源，必須觀察擁有不同經濟發展歷史背景的人民在各人生階段中的經歷。
2. 我向本研究所提供的資料是否保密?
我們香港大學的研究小組非常重視私穩權和嚴謹執行資料保密工作。所有資料均以密碼加密存檔，只供內部職員存取。
3. 研究過程中會否出現疏忽情況?
任何有關本出生隊列的研究項目在開展之前均獲得相關部門，包括香港大學及醫管局港島西醫院聯網研究倫理委員會和香港政府衞生署倫理委員會的審批。而數據分析均不會牽涉個人身份以保障私穩。
4. 如我想查詢關於我孩子的健康，我可否與研究小組聯絡?
雖然我們研究小組未必能夠親自解答所有個人的醫學問題， 但仍歡迎您與我們聯絡，讓我們分享您對孩子健康的關注。我們會因應個別需要盡量提供協助。
